Abner Zook - 2 Collector Art Items

Abner Zook - 2 Collector Art Items

Auction runs from March 1 to 25, 2023

ITEMS WILL BE SOLD at a LIVE AUCTION with ONLINE BIDDING: March 25, 2023 at 4pm

For full auction info, visit: www.paauctioncenter.com

The Pennsylvania Relief Sale is auctioning off these two pieces with proceeds benefiting Mennonite Central Committee (MCC).

About the Artist: Abner Zook was an amazing local artist out of Womelsdorf, PA. With unmatched carving, sculpting, and painting skills, Zook masterfully produced a multitude of beautiful 3-dimensional pieces.

Description of Lot #27: “Rocky Ridge School” - A busy scene covers this painting. With twenty-one children milling about on the grounds in front of the Rocky Ridge School in Quakertown PA, as their teacher stands in the doorway observing. There are no noticeable defects. Signed and dated. Dimensions: 52" x 25.5" x 10"D

Description of Lot #28: “AC Roland Grist Mill” - Front and center in this painting is a beautiful mill standing tall. With a covered bridge set over the water falls that power the water wheel to the right, and two farmhouses on the other side of a fence-lined road to the left, the focal point is only enhanced by the surroundings. A man with a dual horse drawn wagon has pulled in to load up bags of product. The man standing in the door at the top of the mill uses a pulley system to lower the bags to the wagon. Tall trees stand all around, with wispy clouds in the sky. There are no major damages. Signed and dated. Dimensions: 52.5" x 27.5" x 9"D

Singing Light: A Walking Roots Band Christmas Concert

Acoustic, folksy Christmas Concert featuring The Walking Roots on Dec. 11 to benefit Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) sponsored by the Pennsylvania Relief Sale

ATTEND IN-PERSON OR STREAM THE CONCERT LIVE on DEC. 11 at 7pm (ET): charityauction.bid/WinterConcert2021

The Walking Roots Band and the Pennsylvania Relief Sale are pleased to announce Singing Light: A Walking Roots Band Christmas Concert to support the economic relief and development work of Mennonite Central Committee (MCC). The concert will take place Saturday, December 11, at 7 p.m. at Stumptown Mennonite Church in Lancaster County.

The concert will feature a variety of music, including traditional carols, old hymn texts set to new music, and original compositions for the Christmas season. The Shenandoah Valley-based The Walking Roots Band’s music features rich vocal harmonies, folk instrumentation, and a healthy dose of joyful exuberance.

The concert takes place at Stumptown Mennonite Church, 2813 Stumptown Road, Bird In Hand, PA, 17505. Seating is general admission and free to the public on a first come basis. A free-will offering will be received to support the work of Mennonite Central Committee around the world. Masks or face coverings are required for this indoor event.

The concert will also stream live online. Details on how to view the concert online will be posted to pareliefsale.org and to the PA Relief Sale's Facebook page closer to the event. Donations can be made online or by mailing a check payable to "PA Relief Sale" to the Pennsylvania Relief Sale, P.O. Box 416, Leola, PA 17540. To become a concert sponsor, contact: info@pareliefsale.org or 717-208-4152.

“Singing Light is an evening of Christmas music celebrating and reflecting on the verse in John 1:5,” said Greg Yoder, member of the Walking Roots Band. “We find great hope in the image of a light shining in and not being overcome by darkness, and we think music is one way we can contribute light to the world. We’re excited to support MCC with this concert, because we see MCC as an organization that shines light every day, all around the world.”

The concert is hosted by the Pennsylvania Relief Sale -- a non-profit organization whose mission is to financially support Mennonite Central Committee through auctions, food sales, activities, and more at the two-day PA Relief Sale, held annually each year in April at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg. The PA Relief Sale will take place April 1 & 2, 2022.

“We are very excited to partner with the Walking Roots Band in this effort to support the work of MCC,” said Ken Martin, chair of the Pennsylvania Relief Sale. “We are eager to hold this celebration in Lancaster County. Our heartfelt thanks to Stumptown Mennonite Church for hosting this festive and much-need fellowship event.”

The Walking Roots Band (TWRB) is an acoustic, Americana, folksy, blue-ish-grassy, roots music group based in Harrisonburg, VA. Steeped in Anabaptist hymn-singing traditions, the band’s original folk music and reclaimed hymns speak of hope, whether through sacred words written hundreds of years ago or in the honest voice of one of the band’s songwriters. TWRB does not make music full-time; whether touring, performing, recording, or just getting together to practice, they are thankful for the fans, family, and friends who make it all possible.

The Pennsylvania Relief Sale supports Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) in its work to share God’s love and compassion by responding to basic human needs and working for peace and justice. The annual two-day sale each April features auctions, including the Quilt Auction, Silent Auction, Country Auction, and Children's Auction. Handmade items and gifts are available for purchase at additional stands, including Ten Thousand Villages. Homemade food and family-friendly activities make it an event for all ages. The event takes place April 1 & 2, 2022.

This online event is an effort to raise money for MCC. MCC relies on the money raised annually at relief sales across the country and nearly every in-person sale was canceled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. MCC has kept their priority commitments to the most vulnerable populations and are responding quickly to the COVID-19 pandemic around the world despite a substantial reduction of funding this year.

Thank you in advance for supporting MCC’s relief, development, and peace efforts around the world.
