The annual Quilt Auction at the Pennsylvania Relief Sale celebrates the work of numerous artists and needle workers. Quilters spend hours choosing patterns and fabric, piecing, appliqueing, embroidering, quilting, and finishing. Hundreds of people attend the two-day live auction to view and bid on the region’s finest handcrafted quilts.Friday’s auction on April 6, 2018 features pieced quilts and wall hangings, as well as knotted comforters and pre-print items. Saturday’s auction on April 7, 2018 features pieced, appliqued, and vintage quilts of all sizes.Reserved seating is available only for Saturday’s quilt auction and the cost is $10 per chair. Seats may be reserved in person at the time of the auction or in advance by contacting Kim Wagner at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The theme of the 2018 Traveling Quilt is Food. The traveling quilt will be auctioned on Saturday, April 7, during the Quilt Auction. Bids will be accepted as donations to Mennonite Central Committee (MCC). The traveling quilt is not actual sold.
The Food Basket: The quilt, made by Marlys Wiens, is made from waxed dyed Java print in brilliant colors and patterns unique to the Congo. More information about the traveling quilt. Additional information can be found about MCC's work with food issues.
