The annual Quilt Auction at the Pennsylvania Relief Sale celebrates the work of numerous artists and needle workers. Quilters spend hours choosing patterns and fabric, piecing, appliqueing, embroidering, quilting, and finishing. Hundreds of people attend the two-day live auction to view and bid on the region’s finest handcrafted quilts.Friday’s auction on March 31, 2017 features pieced quilts and wall hangings, as well as knotted comforters and pre-print items. Saturday’s auction on April 1, 2017 features pieced, appliqued, and vintage quilts of all sizes.
Reserved seating is available only for Saturday’s quilt auction and the cost is $10 per chair. Seats may be reserved on Friday evening, March 31, 2017; Saturday morning, April 1, 2017; or in advance by contacting Kim Wagner at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The theme of the 2017 Traveling Quilt is Water. The traveling quilt will be auctioned on Saturday, April 1, during the Quilt Auction.
The landscape-original design shows the sun, sky, lake, river, trees, and people celebrating the water in a mosaic style. African women adorn the shoreline.
The traveling quilt is not actually sold but it is auctioned on Saturday each year at the Pennsylvania Relief Sale. Bids are taken as donations for MCC's water programs.
